William Hill is a sports betting name in the UK that requires no introduction. It has been a familiar name on UK high streets for decades and remains one too. It also has a very strong online presence. This William Hill review will examine all that this famous UK betting name has to offer, including details of how you can get £30 in free bets if you sign up for an account.

Bet £10 Get £30 In Free Bets
William Hill was founded by, er, William Hill in 1934. Birmingham-born Hill would take illicit bets in the 1920s (when betting was illegal) from locals before moving to London and opening a gambling club in 1934, allowing people to bet via credit or post as cash betting was still illegal. Despite his opposition to betting shops, Hill was forced to open his first in 1966 to keep up with his competitors, before passing away in 1971.
Upon Hill’s death his betting company was sold to Sears Holding, then Grand Metropolitan in 1977 and Brent Walker a year later. The company has switched hands many times since then, being bought for £2.9 billion by Caesars Entertainment in 2020, primarily for its operations in the US. Caesar went on to sell the European arm of William Hill to 888 Holdings in 2022 for £1.95 billion. William Hill remains under the arm of 888 Holdings as of 2024.
William Hill are no strangers to sport sponsorships and indeed were one of the first companies to indulge in sports sponsorship when it was legalised in the 1970s. It has sponsored hundreds of horse races and greyhound races, plus many events in snooker and tennis. Curiously, it has never sponsored a UK football team as a front-of-shirt sponsor, but it did sponsor the Scottish FA Cup from 2011 to 2020, and at the same time became an ‘official supporter’ of the FA Cup and the English football team.
Before we go any further we need to address the elephant in the room – William Hill almost had their UKGC gambling licence revoked in early 2023, a move which surely would have seen the company go out of business. Instead, they were told to pay a record £19.2 million fine for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings. The list of failings was so substantial that the UKGC chief executive said “When we launched this investigation the failings we uncovered were so widespread and alarming serious consideration was given to licence suspension. However, because the operator immediately recognised their failings and worked with us to swiftly implement improvements, we instead opted for the largest enforcement payment in our history.” We sincerely hope that William Hill have learnt their lesson.
In terms of customer safety, William Hill does take all the steps necessary to ensure the protection of customer data. All traffic sent to this sports betting site and then transmitted back across the internet is encrypted, using the same kind of encryption tools as used by financial institutions.
This brand has upped its commitment to responsible gambling of late, which is understandable given that massive fine. The site has its own responsible gambling page which details the steps you can take to take charge of your gambling, including setting deposit limits, blocking specific gambling products such as slots or live casino games, session time reminders, time outs and even closing your account. There are also links to organisations such as the National Gambling Helpline, the National Gambling Treatment Service and GAMSTOP.
If you are brand new to William Hill, then you can enjoy the William Hill new customer offer. This is only available when you register an account at William Hill using the promo code ‘R30’. If you fail to use this William Hill bonus code you will not get this exclusive William Hill welcome bonus.
Once you have completed the registration process (see below) deposit funds into your account using a debit card and then place a bet with a minimum stake of £10 on any event with odds of 1/2 (1.50) or greater. Once that bet has settled you will be credited with three £10 free bets.
All free bets must be used within seven days else they expire and will be removed from your account. All bets must be used in their entirety and not split into smaller bets. There are no limitations to how this bet can be used (markets, minimum odds) but your free bet stake is not returned as part of your bet, only any winnings.
These terms are very easy to understand and are certainly less constraining than most other promotions we have encountered during our UK betting sites travels. It’s best to check the current T&Cs for this offer though, just in case they been altered since we undertook our William Hill review.
William Hill welcome offer | Offer description | Wagering requirement | Minimum Odds | Offer expiry | Min deposit |
£30 William Hill free bet offer | Bet £10, Get 3 x £10 bets | None | 1/2 (1.50) | 7 days | £10 |
This site likes to keep its existing customers happy too, and while the William Hill promotions they offer stretch the definition of ‘promotions’ a little, we think there’s enough promotional positiveness here to make a prolonged usage of William Hill a positive one. We’ve summarised the meat and two veg of such William Hill promotions below:
TPG on Premier League Favourites – this is a ‘top price guarantee’ on EPL games when match betting (90 minutes). This means that if you back the favourite in any EPL game up to 24 hours before kick-off, you’ll be paid out at the top price available at any leading UK sports betting site.
Football EPIC Boost – create a minimum £5 William Hill football betting acca with a minimum of three single selections and minimum odds of 3/1 and winnings will be boosted by a minimum of 25 per cent, up to a maximum of 100 per cent.
NBA EPIC Boost – works in exactly same way as the ‘Football EPIC Boost’ offer immediately above, but on NBA (basketball games).
Daily Build #YourOdds Bet Boost – ‘Build #Your Odds’ is William Hill’s bet builder which we will cover later on in this William Hill review. Each day, you can select one of your bet builder bets to enhance the odds, maximum stake £20.
Daily Football Acca Bet Boost – similar to the offer above, you can choose once acca (minimum four selections, max stake £20) to enjoy enhanced odds.
Stat Attack – not so much a promotion, as a free-to-enter game. Available daily, answer five questions correctly to get a £20 William Hill football bet builder free bet, or four to get a £2 free bet.
Top Tipster – are you a top William Hill horse racing betting tipster? Pick your mounts, earn points when they win, finish top of the leaderboard and win a maximum jackpot of £5,000 in cash.
Okay, so that’s the background history of William Hill out of the way, plus all the promotional goodness that you will find at this site. Now it’s time to take a much deeper look into everything that William Hill offers.
You won’t be at all surprised to learn that the list of sports available to bet on at William Hill is nicely extensive. There are 34 markets in total, and the full list is as follows:
A comprehensive list, although it’s a little odd that rarities such as lacrosse and netball are included, yet badminton hasn’t made it over the finish line.
William Hill are a big name in the UK sports betting arena, and so they can afford to be competitive with their sports betting odds. Don’t forget that many of their most popular events are boosted daily, and you can choose to have your odds boosted for specific events and bet types.
We made a direct comparison of the odds offered by William Hill for the 2023-24 UCL (which at the time of this William Hill review was at the quarter-final stage. You can view our findings below.
Team | William Hill Odds | Best Odds |
Manchester C | 13/8 | 33/20 |
Arsenal | 6/1 | 7/1 |
Real Madrid | 7/1 | 8/1 |
Bayern Munich | 7/1 | 15/2 |
So, although William Hill was not able to match the best odds on any team, in each case it was not far off at all.
William Hill used to offer ‘best odds guaranteed’ to all customers for William Hill horse racing and greyhounds betting in the UK, but scrapped if for ‘some customers’ in October 2023 following the trend of other bookies such as Betfair and PaddyPower. This is a real shame and we sincerely hope that William Hill soon has a change of heart.
The minimum stake at William Hill is tiny – only thruppence for those sports bettors whose first exposure to sports betting came via betting shops, and three pence for the rest of us. We’ve seen penny bookies, but surely three-pence is tiny enough for most pockets.
There’s no maximum stake but the payout limits at William Hill need always to be considered. You can see these for yourself, just head to Rules > Maximum Winnings. The limits at the highest levels are very generous – up to £1,000,000 for top-class horse racing for example, and up to a staggering £2,000,000 for the most popular football competitions. This is generous when compared to many other sports betting sites in the UK.
William Hill is a very well-used site, so naturally, you would expect in-play betting to take centre stage and you would not be wrong. Just click on the ‘In-Play’ tab on the left-hand menu and you can see what’s currently live that you can bet on. The most popular markets for William Hill in play betting include football (of course), tennis, basketball, cricket, baseball, table tennis, volleyball and eSports, but any sport ‘as live’ should be available for betting.
Even though the design of the William Hill site is lacking in inspiration, you can easily see the current status of any live event, including the latest score. Simple ‘1X2’ markets are up front and central, but on the right-hand side of each listing, you will see a number with a ‘+’ sign. Click on this to see the full markets available for any current live event.
Sports betting live streaming has its own platform at William Hill, called ‘Betting TV Live’. Click on this (top right-hand corner) to take a look at what can be streamed here. There are even three channels!
You have to be logged in at William Hill to watch any live-streamed event. All UK and Ireland horse races are live-streamed, and some from Australia, New Zealand, France, the US, Canada, Argentina and South Africa are live-streamed too. For greyhounds, it’s the UK, Ireland and Australia.
As for everything else, it’s slim pickings, really – we had a hunt around for this William Hill review and could find nothing beyond eSports.
A shout-out for WH Radio here though. This service offers live commentary on virtually all horse races and greyhound races, and there’s the William Hill podcast too!
We feel we’ve covered most of what the William Hill sports betting site has to offer you. There are a couple of items we think we need to mention though that don’t fit into any of the previous categories.
Bonus Drop
If you opt-in to this promotion, once per day that you sign into the William Hill site you will be presented with a free disk. Drop your disk and you’ll uncover one of three possible outcomes – win, no-win and retry. Retry gifts you a second chance, no-win means you go home empty-handed, but a win could see you win free spins or a free bonus to use at the attached William Hill casino, or a cash prize that will be added to your William Hill cash balance.
Build #Your Odds
This, slightly awkward, title is the name of William Hill’s bet builder. This is available for football matches only. It allows you to combine several outcomes, all on the same game, and so significantly increase your odds which you can boost too as we have previously mentioned. Not all football matches are eligible for ‘Build #Your Odds’, but all elite games are.
If you need help at William Hill, your first choice should be the ‘Help and Feedback’ option on the menu, right-hand side at the top of most pages. Click ‘help’ for this site’s FAQs, and there are plenty of them! Most common issues at this sports betting site should be solved via this method. If you need more specific help, then you can contact William Hill via the following channels:
Live chat is initially ‘manned’ by bot called Will whom we found to be spectacularly useless. We groused and were eventually put through to someone with a heartbeat whose responses were much more effective.
The usability of the William Hill online website and the simplicity of the bookie’s welcome offer means that claiming your free bet is straightforward. However, it is still important to familiarise yourself with the process beforehand. If you’re new to the world of online gambling, we recommend checking out our guide on what wager means in betting. Once you know exactly what to expect, follow our step-by-step guide to get started and claim your William Hill free bet.
It is possible to access the William Hill sportsbook on both desktop and mobile. Their website works well on both devices, while a dedicated betting William Hill app is also available to download on iOS and Android devices. We generally recommend using a desktop to start with, as this will make the registration process a little easier.
On the William Hill sportsbook site, click on the ‘Join’ button. Located in the top-right-hand corner, this will open the bookie’s registration form. Here, enter your full name, date of birth, email address and mobile telephone number. At this point, new customers must also provide their home address. On the following page, the William Hill free bet code ‘R30’ must be entered. Those failing to enter the William Hill free bet promo code face missing out on their bonus. Once all information is entered, confirm your decision and verify your new account via email.
Keeping in mind that payments made using PayPal, Neosurf, PaysafeCard, Neteller, Skrill, ‘Payz’, Kalibra or Postepay will not qualify, it is time to deposit for the first time. At least £10 must be added to your account. So, log in and enter the cashier page, before clicking on the ‘Deposit’ option. Enter your preferred amount before entering your debit card, Apple Pay or other payment details. Deposits at William Hill are instant. William Hill is also one of the increasing number of bookies accepting £5 deposits.
Browse available sportsbook markets at William Hill. Add picks to your bet slip, remembering that qualifying bets must meet the minimum odds requirement of 1/2 (1.50). Once you are happy with your bet, whether it be a single or acca, enter your stake and confirm the wager. As soon as this bet has settled, the free bet will be triggered. This means that three £10 free bet tokens will be awarded to punters.
Free bet tokens are available for up to seven days. Tokens must be used in full on sportsbook markets of your choosing. So, once again, browse available markets, before adding selections to your bet slip. The ‘cash in my bet’ feature can be used here, however the free bet amount will be lost. In terms of minimum odds, there are no restrictions when it comes to odds. This means that bets can be placed at as high or low prices as you wish. Any winnings made from free bets will be available to withdraw immediately. This is due to the lack of any wagering requirements surrounding the William Hill free bet offer.
As mentioned above, there are no wagering requirements surrounding this free bet offer from William Hill online betting. As a result, any winnings made can be withdrawn immediately. Of course, punters also have the option to invest the funds on future bets. So, head to the cashier page once again, before selecting the ‘withdraw’ option. Based on your account balance, enter the amount you wish to withdraw. It is generally recommended to use the same payment method that you used for depositing. This will help to speed up the process. Payouts at William Hill take between one and three working days in most cases, although Visa debit cards and eWallets may be quicker.
William Hill has apps for iOS and Android, and no matter which version you are using, you are in for a pretty seamless experience from start to finish. As soon as you download the app, you will be met with a simple layout. There are not any confusing graphics that can lead you astray. Everything is laid out right in front of you in the William Hill mobile app and is easy to digest. All of the menu systems are clearly labelled and you can filter through the various options with ease. Each of the 34 available sports will be on full view.
All of the important pages such as William Hill customer support, betting promotions, and banking will be clearly displayed through the pull-out menu. You will also see the option to register for a new William Hill account. This can be done in a matter of minutes and is nice and smooth despite the smaller device.
The William Hill mobile app bet slip system is very smooth, allowing you to quickly place bets without having to waste any time at all. The overall design and functionality are very similar to what you see with the desktop offering, which is always a compliment when it comes to a major operator such as William Hill. We will explore the performance capabilities in a bit more detail in a further section.
A quick reminder here that you need to use the William Hill bonus code ‘R30’ when claiming your new customer bonus. In our experience, you have always needed to use a William Hill promo code to claim the new customer offer at this site. You should check the site for the various latest bonus codes, for both the welcome offer and any other deals the site may be offering.
If you love betting site promo codes (and who doesn’t?) then we’ve tracked down all the latest codes which you will find available for you to peruse here:
Like all top sports betting sites in the UK, William Hill has a casino attached, but is it a top casino? As William Hill is now owned by 888 Holdings, the company behind the excellent 888casino, you would expect the answer to this question to be a resounding yes, but if only life was as simple as that. Let’s now take a detailed look at the William Hill casino, and see if it’s a place you’d want to be spending your time away from sports betting.
The casino at William Hill is called ‘Vegas’ to give it a little glam appeal. The menu gives a glimpse of what’s on offer here – slots, exclusives, jackpots, live casino, bingo, table (games) and poker. In terms of providers, William Hill Vegas can offer games from Playtach, NetEnt, IGT, WMS, Blueprint Gaming and others, which is a pretty formidable mix. The ‘exclusive’ tab offers slots and games that you simply will not find elsewhere, plus ‘William Hill only’ live casino tables for roulette and blackjack courtesy of VSports. The live casino has more options, stretching to baccarat, dice games and a good selection of game shows from Evolution and Playtech.
A quick explanation about bingo and poker – in terms of bingo, these are proper bingo rooms not just bingo as software-based games. You can play both US-style 75-ball bingo and UK-style 90-ball bingo. The poker section is … almost devoid of poker. It has a few live casino poker tables, but that’s all. William Hill does have poker, but that’s an entirely different site and William Hill app away from the main offerings.
The banking methods available at William Hill online should be enough for anyone. They include debit cards, PaysafeCard, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Payz (erroneously still called ecoPayz on the site), ApplePay, Fast Bank Transfer and Truelayer (a new one on us). If you are reading this from outside of the UK, there are more payment options for you.
The minimum deposit is £5 for some payment methods and £10 for others. You can even deposit cash at William Hill betting shops, or via a William Hill Plus Card (see below) which you can also acquire at a shop. Deposits are processed instantly and there are no fees.
The William Hill withdrawal time is from 30 minutes (most Visa debit cards) up to five days for a bank transfer. The withdrawal options are limited to debit cards, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, eco(Payz), bank transfers and Truelayer.
Banking Method | Fees | Min Deposit | Min Withdraw | William Hill Withdrawal Time |
Visa debit | None | £5 | £5 | 30 mins – 4 hours |
MasterCard debit | None | £5 | £5 | 1 – 3 days |
PaysafeCard | None | £10 | Not available | Not available |
PayPal | None | £10 | £10 | Same day |
Skrill | None | £10 | £5 | Same day |
Neteller | None | £10 | £5 | Same day |
Payz | None | £10 | £5 | Same day |
ApplePay | None | £5 | Not available | Not available |
Fast Bank Transfer | None | £10 | £25 | 3 – 5 days |

We briefly mentioned the William Hill Plus Card above, but now we are going to did a little deeper into what, exactly it is. This allows you to add, track and cash out your in-shop bets (at a William Hill’s bookie) online. You can also link your William Hill account online with the chance of obtaining free bets and exclusive deals.
The Plus Card is free and can be applied for at any William Hill betting shop. It’s a contactless card with which you can manage all your bets, both online and at William Hill bookies. You can place bets at the bookies using your online balance, and withdraw online funds instantly as cash. If you bet online and at William Hill betting shops, then getting a William Hill Plus Card is a complete no-brainer.
As we approach the conclusion of our William Hill review, it’s time for a bit of summing up – what do we really like about the William Hill sports betting site, and what leaves us in danger of swiping left? Here then are the main pros and cons that we found.
Nearly everyone in the UK will have heard of William Hill, and we’re betting a high proportion of the UK populace (over 40 anyhow) has seen the inside of a William Hill betting shop. We feel really positive about the online side of William Hill, and we hope we have managed to convey that via our William Hill review. They are a big name for a reason, and the go-to betting site for tens of thousands of contented punters. Why not go and shake hands with the legendary Mr Hill today?

Bet £10 Get £30 In Free Bets
Yes. The promo code “R30” must be entered at the time of registering a new account in order to qualify. Those failing to do so face missing out on their free bet.
The William Hill free bet club is no longer active. This used to be a way in which punters could earn themselves regular free bets. However, this has now been replaced by individual promotions.
When looking to take advantage of the William Hill welcome offer, remember that a valid promo code must be entered when signing up. Meanwhile, odds of 1/2 or greater must be met when placing qualifying bets. Payment restrictions are also in place. Be sure to read about the T&Cs further up on this page.
Some betting sites offer a “bet 10 get 40” offer. However, this is currently not available at William Hill. The same also goes for William Hill free 20 bet and William Hill 25 free bet offers.
Yes. The William Hill sportsbook is available on both mobile browsers and through a dedicated app. Simply place a qualifying bet to receive your free bet.
Free bet tokens at William Hill can last for 30 days. This is significantly longer than many other betting sites, where free bets will expire after just 7 days. As a result, punters are not rushed into any decisions.
No. There is no free bet code for existing customers at William Hill. However, this does not mean that there are no promotions to take advantage of. Instead of a code, a qualifying bet is all that is required.
