The summer transfer window has just concluded, and we look at the biggest spenders in the transfer market. According to the numbers presented by SafeBettingSites.com, Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion were the biggest spenders in the global market during the summer window. The Seagulls had a net spend of €182.91m during the window.
No Chelsea amongst top ten net spenders
Brighton & Hove Albion were the surprising name at the top of the transfer charts during the recently concluded summer transfer window.
When it comes to net spending (i.e. money spent on incomings – money earned on outgoings), the Seagulls topped the charts with a €182.91m spend. Chelsea have garnered a reputation for their transfer outlays in recent years, but they didn’t even feature among the top ten clubs when it comes to net spending.
Napoli from Serie A was in the second spot with a net outlay of €138m. Undoubtedly, the Naples-based club were hamstrung by their inability to sell Victor Osimhen.
Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town grabbed the third spot with a net spend of €124.84m. The biggest chunk of the outlay was spent on signing Omari Hutchinson on a permanent deal from Chelsea.
Saudi clubs were not as prolific in the window as compared to last year. However, a couple of them still managed to make the top ten. Al-Ittihad were the fourth biggest net spenders with an expenditure of €115.55m. The majority of this amount was spent on signing Moussa Diaby from Aston Villa.
Premier League giants Manchester United were also quite busy in the window, and they featured in the fifth spot with a net spend of €111.5.
Olympique Lyon from Ligue 1 were the biggest spenders in France, and overall sixth, with a net spend of €109.04m.
West Ham United, the fourth Premier League side on the list, was next with a €99.65m net spend. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain were the second French side on the list with a modest spend of €98.42m for their standards. On the ninth spot, Al-Nassr were the second biggest spenders in Saudi football with a net spend of €98.32m.
Ahead of the usual big boys in Spain, Atletico Madrid were the biggest spenders in the country, having spent €91.10m in the window and occupying the tenth spot overall.
Overall, the list featured four clubs from the Premier League, two clubs each from Ligue 1 and Saudi Pro League, and one club each from Serie A and La Liga.
