According to the latest data from Football Benchmark, the Portugal international, who plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, added 47.8 new followers on his social media accounts, indicating a 5% increase in the total amount. The social media platforms considered in the analysis are Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, Weibo, and YouTube. The analysis assumes the time frame between July 1, 2023, and July 1, 2024.
Lionel Messi is second on the list with 29.4m new followers on his social media accounts. Messi’s overall following also grew by 5% during 2023-24.
England star Jude Bellingham occupies the third spot with 21.9m new followers. The youngster has soared in popularity following his move to Real Madrid last summer. His social media following more than doubled in 2023-24 as it grew by 159%.
Vinicius Jr, another Real Madrid star, was the next most popular footballer on social media during the past year, gaining 20.2m new followers. His overall following grew by 27% last year.
Kylian Mbappe, now a Real Madrid player, is just behind with 16.2m new followers, increasing his overall following by 12%. The next spot belongs to Brazilian star Neymar, who currently plays for Al Hilal. He gained 15.9m new followers
Toni Kroos, who last played for Real Madrid, is next on the list with 11.4m new followers. Real Madrid players also occupy the bottom three spots on the list. Endrick, Eduardo Camavinga, and Rodrygo all gained 9.9m new followers last season.
Rodrygo and Camavinga are already established stars at Real Madrid. Endrick, on the other hand, played for Brazilian club Palmeiras on loan last season and is set to join Real Madrid this summer. He is touted as the next Brazilian prodigy, with his social media fan base growing by an impressive 190%.
