It has been anything but an average start to the new Premier League season. Amongst the most noticeable trends, Premier League teams are scoring goals faster than ever. Prior to the 2009-10 season, the Premier League never witnessed more than 2.68 goals per game over the course of a season, except for the 1999-00 season, which produced 2.79 goals per game. Such a high scoring rate was a rare sight in the league during the time.

Similarly, from 2009-10 onwards, the Premier League never witnessed a season with a scoring rate of less than 2.68 goals per game, with the exception of the 2014-15 season, which saw the scoring rate plummeting to 2.57 goals per game. 

Following multiple seasons, which saw a scoring rate of more than 2.80 goals per game, the rate of scoring in the Premier League reached its peak of 2.85 goals per game during the 2022-23 season.

However, earlier trends indicate that the ongoing Premier League season could see a historic amount of goals. Because, at 3.08 goals per game, the 2023-24 season is producing goals at a rate that has not been seen before in the league.
