A legendary gaming franchise first released in the early ’90s and a new game on the block share the honour of being two of 2021’s most searched games. According to data presented by Safe Betting Sites, Fifa 22 and New World were the most searched games on search engines by average monthly volume – both games averaged 2.7 million searches per month.
Amazon and EA Produce Most Searched Games of 2021 in New World and Fifa 22
Electronic Arts Studios’ Fifa franchise is one of the most iconic titles in all of gaming. The game’s first instalment was released in 1993 while its latest version, known as FIFA 22, was released in October 2021. Meanwhile, a new game in the genre known as Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game(MMORPG), known as New World was released on September 28, 2021, after being developed by Amazon Games.
Both games with two very different histories share the distinction of being the most searched games of 2021. In terms of search volume from search engines, both FIFA 22 and New World averaged 2.7M monthly searches. Another iconic franchise takes the third most searched spot, with Resident Evil Village averaging 2M monthly searches. Notably, Resident Evil Village was released earlier in the year in May 2021, arguably giving it a more impressive record.

FIFA 22 has long been an iconic game but may have made the news more frequently this year than previous iterations pushing up its search volume. EA’s put doubts on whether the franchise will continue in its current format, with a move to a subscription-based model that is becoming more popular in gaming, tipped by many industry insiders to be forthcoming. Many believe, FIFA 22 will be one of the last, if not the last, version of FIFA to carry its long-running tradition of annually released games.
New World also generated a lot of buzz upon its release with the game only the third to come out of Amazon Games. It soon became one of the most played online games upon its release but was then plagued by development issues and major glitches. Despite the rollercoaster start, developers at Amazon have promised more development and improvements to the game ensuring a promising future for New World.
